Turns out, seersucker comes from a Hindi word, 'sirsakar'. I read it was made popular by the Brits, I guess when they spent all that time in India. It's great in hot weather, doesn't need to be ironed, travels well. I could even leave it open and use it as a cover up at the pool or beach this summer - and it won't stick to my skin.
