Rise
Jeans have a front rise and a back rise. Rise is measured from the top of the waistband down to the crotch seam. Rise controls where the pant sits on your waist or hips. A proper fitting rise can minimize ‘saggy crotch’ and/or ‘plumbers crack’.
Standard Rise is our most popular rise. Unless you knowingly have rise issues, we recommend starting with Standard Rise. Once you receive a jean, you can better gauge your rise requirements. Then, if you believe you need a different rise, we can exchange.
Measure a jean (you currently own) with a front and back rise that fits well. Consider the adjustments you’d like to see, then compare with the measurements on our rise chart.
Lower Block
Standard Lower Block is most popular and we recommend it as a starting point for all new customers. Once you receive a jean, you can better gauge your Lower Block requirements.
Measure a jean (you currently own) that fits well through the knee and ankle, consider the adjustments you’d like to see, then compare with our sizing charts. You can find measurements for knee and ankle on our size charts.
Upper Block
Use Upper Block to increase or decrease the roominess around your seat and thighs.
Basic is similar to a ‘Regular Fit’ and is our most popular fit. Relaxed is similar to ‘Relaxed Fit’ with other brands; good for guys with muscular thighs. Lean is the least popular of these fits, but it works well for guys who always find ‘Regular Fit’ jeans have too much excess fabric in the seat.
Below we show three Upper Block fits on the same guy. He’s wearing a 32 waist. These photos are for reference only, the same Upper Block will look different on you, depending on your seat and thigh size. You can find measurements for seat and thigh on our size charts.

Length
Your jean's waist size is the most important factor in determining your fit. Our waist sizes are based on industry standards, adding 1.5 inches to the labeled size. For instance, a 34 waist will measure 35.5 inches.
However, some brands may use vanity sizing, where the actual waist size is significantly larger than the labeled size. If you suspect your current brand uses vanity sizing, consider choosing one size larger when ordering Todd Shelton.
To ensure a better fit, choose a waist size that is comfortably snug at first. As you wear them, the fabric will naturally stretch, but it will return to its original size after washing. This prevents the jeans from becoming too loose between washes.
Lay your jeans on a flat, rigid surface, such as a table. Pull the outside edges of the waistband outwards to remove any slack. Measure across the center of the waistband. Make sure that the edges of your measurement do not exceed the outside edges of the waistband.
We offer seven fits for the area below the waistband down to the lower thigh, with each fit varying by 1 inch around the seat and 1/2 inch around the thighs. This range of options lets you tweak your fit to your body type and fit preferences.
Lay your jeans on a flat, rigid surface, such as a table. Smooth the jeans flat, pulling out any excess fabric that may be folded underneath. To measure the seat, measure across the jean, 3 inches above the crotch seam. To measure the thigh, measure from crotch point to outside edge of jean (like shown above).
Rise is an important factor in determining how high or low jeans sit on your waist, influencing your overall comfort and fit. We offer a range of five rise options to accommodate various body types and preferences.
Typically, jeans will naturally rest on your waist or hips, depending on your body composition. If your rise is too low, the jeans won't sit high enough on your waist, causing tightness in the crotch area. Conversely, if your rise is too long, you may experience excess fabric gathering under your crotch.
Lay your jeans on a flat, rigid surface. Place your measuring tape at the top of the waistband, in the center of the front of the jeans. Measure down to the crotch seam, where the two legs of the jeans meet.
Knee and ankle are two separate fit points. Most customers choose the same fit for both, but some may need different fits for each. For example, customers with larger calves may prefer a straight knee fit and a standard ankle fit. The wider knee provides extra room down to the calf.
Measure knee 14″ below the crotch seam, across knee.
We offer four ankle widths, each separated by 1/2 inch. This range of options ensures you'll find the right fit to accommodate your footwear and personal style.
Ankle measurements are the same for all inseam lengths. For example, a 7" ankle measurement will be the same for a 26" inseam jean and a 36" inseam jean. Ankle measurement should be taken just above the bottom hem to avoid including the bulk of the hem in the measurement.
We offer jean lengths in half-inch increments from 25 to 38 inches.
Lay your jeans on a flat, rigid surface, such as a table. Smooth out the jeans and keep the outseam straight. Place your measuring tape at the middle of the crotch seam, where the two legs of the jeans meet. Extend the measuring tape down to the bottom hem of the jeans.
