Jeans for tall men

Most brands stop at a 34 inch inseam. Longer inseams sell in lower volume and require separate patterns, grading, and inventory for each length. The economics favor the average.

Todd Shelton makes jeans in its own factory. Inseams from 35 to 38 inches are cut and graded individually, the same process used for every other length in the collection.

All-cotton denim shrinks. For tall men, a 38 inch inseam that shrinks more than an inch changes the fit. Stretch denim shrinks too, and less predictably. Todd Shelton inseams are double washed before shipping to remove shrinkage risk. A 38 inch inseam ships as 38 inches. Expect up to ½ inch of shrinkage after several launderings.

Men 6'4" and above typically wear a 35, 36, 37, or 38 inch inseam. Find a pair of jeans you currently own that fit well. Lay them on a flat, rigid surface. Smooth out the fabric and keep the outseam straight. Place a measuring tape at the middle of the crotch seam, where the two legs meet. Extend the tape to the bottom hem.

Todd Shelton inseams are measured before shipping with a tolerance of ¼ inch. A 36 inch inseam ships between 35¾ and 36¼ inches.

If your measurement falls between two lengths, order longer.

Cuffing is a style decision that requires additional inseam length. A single cuff folds once — a small profile at 2 inches or less, or a larger profile at 4 inches. A double cuff folds twice. Each fold consumes length.

Todd Shelton makes inseams to 38 inches and longer on request. Add the cuff depth to your base inseam measurement before ordering.

Rise is measured from the top of the waistband to the crotch seam. It determines how high or low the jean sits on the waist. A rise that is too short sits low and creates tightness in the crotch. A rise that is too long leaves excess fabric below the waist.

Taller heights can create a proportional case for high rise. Todd Shelton's high rise is one inch longer than the standard mid-rise and is available on all jeans.
